Public Meeting 2022

Sussex Community Foundation is delighted to invite you to our Public Meeting and launch of our new 2022-27 Strategy:

A fairer, more equal Sussex

At the AMEX Community Stadium
Thursday 1st December 6-8pm

 

Facilitated by David Dimbleby, we’ll be asking a panel of local experts how the new Sussex Community Foundation strategy can help us to achieve the Foundation’s aim of building thriving communities in Sussex, through connecting community action and local philanthropy.

David is a journalist and former presenter of current affairs and political programmes, best known for having presented the BBC topical debate programme Question Time for 25 years. David has interviewed prime ministers and presidents, made award-winning documentaries, and anchored the BBC’s live coverage of historic national and world events. He is a local philanthropist, living in Sussex and is a supporter of Sussex Community Foundation.

We will also be joined by panellists:

Kevin Richmond – CEO, Sussex Community Foundation

Kevin became the first Chief Executive of Sussex Community Foundation in 2006 after working in a wide range of local and national charities. Under his leadership, Sussex Community Foundation has become one of the ten largest and fastest growing community foundations in the UK. Kevin is a trustee of UKCF, the national membership charity for community foundations.

Becky Shaw – CEO, East & West Sussex County Council

Becky has been Chief Executive of East Sussex County Council for over ten years and was also appointed CEO of West Sussex in 2020. She has a strong commitment to local charities and understands their important role in the community. Sussex Community Foundation worked in close partnership with both county councils during the coronavirus pandemic to provide rapid response funding to support the voluntary sector.

Jackie Sumner – CEO, Voluntary Action Arun & Chichester

Jackie was appointed CEO of Voluntary Action Arun & Chichester in March. She has previously worked for charities, colleges and a range of local authorities to help instigate positive change in communities. VAAC promotes and supports local voluntary and community groups through providing advice, information, support, training and events. Sussex Community Foundation work with the voluntary actions across Sussex, including VAAC, to extend our reach and impact.

Carina Bauer – CEO, IMEX Exhibitions and local philanthropist

Carina is CEO of the IMEX Group, which runs tradeshows in Europe and North America for the global business events industry. The company is based in Hove and employs 75 local staff. Carina is currently undertaking detailed research to develop a plan to make a strategic difference to homelessness in Brighton & Hove. The IMEX Group set up the Brighton & Hove Homelessness Fund at Sussex Community Foundation in 2020.

Kaveed Ali – Director of Equality Diversity and Inclusion, UK Community Foundations

Kaveed works across UKCF and the network to ensure the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are central to everything community foundation’s do. His career has spanned the private, statutory, and voluntary sectors. Before joining UKCF he led a culture change programme funded by the Mayor of London.

Our annual public meeting will bring together all who want to make a positive contribution to our local area. There will be an opportunity for discussion and to submit questions to the panel.

We are also excited to be launching our new Sussex Community Foundation brand.
